Farming Today

11/03/20 - Wet weather, coronavirus and agricultural commodities, and lambing labour

Farming Today

After months of intermittent rain, we catch up with progress in the fields on a farm in Kent. From the trials of storing wheat seed over winter to the crop struggling without enough fertiliser. Coronavirus is having an impact on global stock markets. We ask an expert what that means for agricultural commodity prices and whether farmers will feel it. Many sheep farmers are turning to social media at this time of year with adverts like this: "Wanted! Lambing assistant, duties include assisting with lambing, feeding, watering, ringing and numbering, includes night shifts..." We visit a farmer who says finding labour at lambing time is getting so hard, he's going to have to downsize his flock. Presented by Anna Hill Produced by Heather Simons
