28/07/20 New Agriculture and Trade Commission; The history of GM; Fears over hunting licences

Farming Today

As the Government launches the new Agriculture and Trade Commission we speak to its chairman Tim Smith. He guarantees there won't be a lowering of welfare or environmental standards in future trade deals. He says the laws we have are so stringent, there's no need to change them. All week we're taking an in-depth look at Genetic Modification. Today we hear from Professor Mike Bevan, one of the scientists who was there at the very beginning, working in one of the three labs which first developed the technology. Wild-fowlers on the Humber Estuary fear a review of hunting licences could threaten their sport. Natural England say they're concerned that wildlife at sensitive sites is being disturbed.
