22/08/20 Farming Today This Week: food self-sufficiency, peat restoration, diverse agricultural careers
The National Farmers' Union says it wants British farming to set a global benchmark in sustainable food production, by becoming more self-sufficient. We ask whether that's possible, or even a good idea.
We hear calls for a peat restoration project which will re-wet peat land to make it soak up carbon, rather than emitting it.
Thereβs a vast array of careers linked to farming which enable the industry to achieve its potential, from scientists to machinery sales. We hear from an agronomist, an agricultural solicitor and a GIS mapping consultant.
