After years of budget cuts, Natural England, the government’s advisor on nature, has had a 47% increase in budget. That goes hand-in-hand with an expanded role. Its remit: ‘to help the nation build back greener’. Chairman Tony Juniper explains what's in its newly-published action plan for this year and next. Harvesting rain water - the farmers and businesses that are making sure not a drop's wasted. Rainfall's collected when it runs off the roof, filtered and cleaned then used for watering livestock or washing down yards and equipment. The Australian government's hailing the new UK-Australia trade deal as a triumph for producers and consumers down under. But British farmers say they feel betrayed, they're not convinced with reassurances from the Department for International Trade that there will be no compromise on animal welfare and food-safety standards.
