01/09/2021 Labour shortage on poultry farms, strawberry breeding, croft horse trekking

Farming Today

Staff shortages in the food chain are causing serious problems for poultry farmers. A cross-industry report says the cause is a combination of post-Brexit immigration rules and Covid-19. Developing a new type of strawberry can take up to 10 years. The NIAB-EMR Centre for Horticultural Research in Kent has a team of breeders doing just that, as well as researching all kinds of other soft fruit. We hear from a horse trekking enterprise developed on a tiny croft just north of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
