Poultry farmers say not enough is being done to set up a new veterinary agreement with the EU, which would help ease exports. Leaving the EU meant exports of meat were being slowed down by paperwork and too few vets available to make inspections. Added to this, bird flu could complicate transporting poultry meat for EU export around the UK. The EU’s animal health regulations for countries outside the European Union mean meat can not be exported from areas where there have been bird flu outbreaks - and lorries aren’t even allowed to pass through these areas. Two years on from officially leaving the European Union, this week we’re taking stock of how farming has been managing the transition. Many nurseries have traditionally relied on importing plants from the EU. We ask how has the relationship between UK plant growers and the Continent been affected. Conservationists are concerned that recent storms across the north of England and Scotland could have an impact on the future of red squirrels which rely on forests for their habitat.
