Ejeka jo from the Yoruba, meaning 'let us dance'. Nigerian Juju and it's musical antecedent, Appala, exist as a distincly Yoruba musical genre. Hypnotic percussion and intricate vocal poetry combine to tell a story of heavenly worship and earthly praise; Whether touting the virtues of the Gods, lineages of great kings, noble deeds of national heroes or simply praising the local deputy or minister. Spurred on by verse after verse and infectious, gently accelerating tempos, parties where Juju is played last from day into night and back into day.
