Farm Welfare Post-Brexit, Bio-fuels Cap, Aquaponic Urban Farm

Farming Today

Will animal welfare standards come under pressure post-Brexit? Farmers might want to keep current standards but will animal welfare campaigners push for more? We hear from Peter Stevenson from Compassion in World Farming and Cat McLaughlin animal Health and Welfare Policy Advisor for the NFU. Many farmers in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire rely on selling wheat to the local biofuel plant. The bio-thanol is blended with the petrol we buy at the forecourt to make it greener. But the Government plans to limit the amount of crops that can be used to produce renewable fuels. Grow Bristol is an urban farm based in recycled shipping containers on the side of the road. It uses aquaponic systems to grow leafy salad greens and farm fish, with the waste from the fish used to feed the plants. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
