Farming Today

Labour's rural promises, Cornish Black Bees and Atlantic salmon.

Farming Today

The race for Number Ten enters its final phase with just over a week of campaigning left. The Labour Party explains its plans for farming and rural issues including protecting the environment, the badger cull, seasonal workers and second home ownership. England's first Black Bee reserve has opened in South East Cornwall. The subspecies of native honey bee is only found in a few isolated spots but it's hoped the new breeding centre at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park will secure the Black Bee's future. Wild Atlantic salmon are in serious decline and the finger has been pointed at climate change, pollution, salmon farming, disease and predation by seals, cormorants and dolphins. Now conservations from the Atlantic Salmon Trust are pinning their hopes on a new study into the exact role played by each of those threats to the fish. Presented by Charlotte Smith. Produced by Vernon Harwood.
