Farming Today This Week: Embracing Change

Farming Today

This week, at the Oxford Farming Conference and the Oxford Real Farming Conference, the Environment Secretary Michael Gove addressed growing calls for clarity around how a post-Brexit agricultural policy will look, revealing plans for several key areas, including protecting natural capital, post-Brexit trade and arguably the most talked-about topic for farmers: subsidies. Concluding a week focused on 'Embracing Change', Charlotte Smith visits Lower Odd Farm in Malmesbury, to discuss what Mr Gove's revelations mean for UK farmers and how they should prepare for this brave new world. She's joined by farmer Roger Wilson and his son William, Philip Dolbear from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board and Martin Lines, Chairman of the new Nature Friendly Farming Network. The programme also features insights from Dieter Helm, a Professor of Economic Policy at Oxford University and Chair of the independent Natural Capital Committee; Sustainable Food Trust Chief Executive, Patrick Holden; and the Secretary of State for Environment himself, Michael Gove. Presented by Charlotte Smith; produced by Lucy Taylor.
