Farming Today This Week: Royal Bath and West Show

Farming Today

Now in its 155th year, the Royal Bath and West Show remains one of Somerset's most treasured public events (only to Glastonbury Festival gets more visitors!) Steffan Messenger explores the showground in Shepton Mallet; meeting the volunteers, exhibitors and livestock that keep the show going year after year. He discusses the challenges facing traditional agricultural shows in a modern, changing world with chief executive Rupert Cox, and meets a local character who's been stewarding at the show for 53 years. The indomitable Peter Sherbourne guides Steffan around the cattle lines, introducing him to the exhibitors proudly showing off their best cows, bulls and heifers. And, digging into the BBC archives, we hear wonderful voices from bygone Bath and Wests, going right back to the 1930s. Presented by Steffan Messenger and produced by Anna Jones.
