Farming Today

Beef and the Environment, Immigration and Bees

Farming Today

What is the true cost of beef? Grass fed or raised on grain? Charlotte hears from two sides of the argument about producing cattle with the least environmental impact. Food will be more expensive if measures recommended by the Migrant Advisory Committee are adopted. Its report for the Government suggesting how migration should be managed after Brexit has been criticised by many farming and rural organisations. The committee’s chairman says there should be a scheme for seasonal agricultural workers, but that businesses using it should pay a charge per worker and should also pay higher wages. And the bee farmer who sends his willing workers from Scotland to the rural English Midlands. Presented by Charlotte Smith Produced by Alun Beach.
