Brexit and the CLA conference, Duck farm, Environmental farming

Farming Today

Environment secretary Michael Gove has told farm business leaders that the UK could be a speciality supplier of high quality food to the world post-Brexit and that this would be the country's USP. Anna asks Christopher Price from the Country Land and Business Association for his views. The UK produces about 30,000 tonnes of duck meat a year and is the fourth largest duck meat producer in the EU. But it also supplies breeding stock and genetic material to produce more than 60% of the world's duck meat. As for farming the birds themselves here in the UK there are no specific laws about the welfare of ducks, which is something the RSPCA is campaigning to change, Anna visits a duck farmer to find out more. How do you maximise land use for food production without disturbing the environment? Schumacher College in Devon has been trialling agro-ecological farming for many years - and with real concerns that Brexit could bring with it food shortages and problems importing enough to feed us - they say their efforts to grow more food for a local market are more important than ever. Presented by Anna Hill Produced by Alun Beach.
