Farming Today

Farm accident survivor's story, ELMS pilots delayed, sheep rustling prevention

Farming Today

We hear the personal and graphic story of William Sayers who was seriously injured in a farm accident at the age of 12. He now helps to warn others about the dangers of being on a working farm. The Uplands Alliance is concerned that Defra is yet to pass on funding to support the pilot projects for the new Environmental Land Management Scheme, the scheme that will replace farm subsidies post-Brexit. The group fears that the new system will not be tested fully before farmers have to start applying to join the scheme. Farmers across Scotland are using modern technology to fight back against sheep rustling. In the past this was a small scale, opportunist crime. But these days, it's organised, sophisticated and thousands of animals are disappearing from British farms every year. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
