Farming Today This Week: Peat

Farming Today

Peat is one of the biggest stores of carbon the UK has, yet 80 percent of our peatlands are degraded and in poor condition. In this programme, Caz Graham visits a peatland restoration project in the Lake District, to find out how improving the condition of the peat can help mitigate climate change. She talks to the Cumbria Wildlife Trust, the farmer who works on the land, and the local water company - and learns that, as well as storing carbon, restored peatland can also prevent flooding, improve water quality, and provide an important habitat for wildlife.
