Farming Today

A survey reveals that key workers - from care workers to farm workers - can’t afford most privately rented accommodation in the countryside. Charlotte Smith hears from a mental health support worker who faced living in a damp and expensive property, and Crispin Truman from the organisation which carried out the survey, the CPRE, explains what needs to change. A Kent fruit grower is trialling new techniques to adopt what he calls a third way of farming: one that moves away from using synthetic chemicals, and produces crops that are higher in quality and nutrients than organic food. All this week Farming Today is focusing on a β€˜green recovery’ - the BBC's Energy and Environment Analyst Roger Harrabin explains what one is, and what it might mean. Producer: Toby Field
