Farming Today

The Kennel Club is working with farmers and crofters in Scotland to tackle sheep worrying. Dog attacks on sheep have been increasing, just last week seven pregnant ewes were killed on a farm in Devon. Dog owners are being urged to keep their dogs under close control, but the Kennel Club says landowners can help prevent livestock worrying too by ensuring fields and gates have no gaps, using signs effectively and reporting any stray dogs. There are reports that the government plans to introduce a closed season for hare shooting and that in England, shooting mountain hares will be banned. The Countryside Alliance says ministers are getting their priorities wrong, they say the real risk to hares is illegal poaching and coursing. Plugging the hungry gap - the season when winter crops are over, but the spring ones haven't begun. We catch up with a hi-tech vertical farm in Scotland which uses robots and computers to grow food.
