Crime in the countryside, Rural tourism, Neil Parish MP

Farming Today

Illegal fly-tipping, farm machinery thefts, dog attacks and hare coursing are now so widespread that the NFU is demanding the Government sets up a rural crime task force. In a hard-hitting report published this morning, the NFU claims that some police forces do not treat rural crimes as serious, giving criminals the opportunity to target farm businesses. It's thought that rural tourism contributes £20 billion a year to the UK economy. Challenges for the industry include poor transport links and bad broadband access but the Tourism Alliance says leaving the EU could be the biggest obstacle of all. The Conservative MP for Tiverton and Honiton, Neil Parish, says he will "hold the Government's feet to the fire over Brexit" as he's re-elected to chair the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee. Presented by Charlotte Smith. Produced by Vernon Harwood.
