Intensive Beef Farming,TB Testing in Wales, Farming Advice from New Zealand

Farming Today

All this week we're looking more closely at what is termed 'intensive farming'. A recent newspaper article talked about American style intensive beef feedlots in the UK. The article said units of herds of up to three thousand cattle at a time were being held in grassless pens for extended periods. Anna Hill was given exclusive access to one of the farms criticised in the report to investigate the claims. Campaigners against the badger cull in Wales have criticised a report that shows five animals were killed in the 2017 cull, at a cost of nearly £400,000. The group, 'Stop the Welsh Cull' is now calling for any future Welsh culls to be abandoned. Farming Today hears a response from the Welsh Chief Veterinary Officer Christiane Glossop. It's a challenging time in farming, with uncertainty over Brexit and the recent hot weather, so many farmers would probably welcome a little extra help at the moment - and that's something Sean Chubb hopes he can provide. Sean is from New Zealand and he's currently working with an international agriculture company offering dairy farmers advice based on the systems he uses back home. Presented by Anna Hill Produced by Alun Beach.
