10/05/2019 - General shooting licences, animal CSI and home grown flowers

Farming Today

In the latest in what's becoming a long-running saga, MPs are to investigate Natural England's decision to revoke general licences for shooting pest birds. We bring you an update of where we are and where we might be going... Since 2003, animals that die on farms must be collected by external contractors and disposed of safely. At one of these fallen stock collection centres in County Durham, post-mortem examinations are routinely carried out to discover why an animal has died with student farmers from Northumberland College invited in to learn how they might prevent similar deaths in future. Our reporter joins students to witness an animal autopsy. And floristry is the very definition of a just in time business... many of our favourite flowers are imported but can still be ordered by florists today for delivery tomorrow. Now, British flowers may be getting a boost because of concerns about Brexit delaying international deliveries. We visit one florist who has started growing her own to keep her supply of flowers safe. Presented by Charlotte Smith Produced by Heather Simons
