Gove's bid for PM, flavourful tomatoes, dog walking paddocks

Farming Today

Michael Gove was a bit of a dark horse when he first took the reins as Secretary of State at Defra. Now his days there might be numbered, will farmers miss him when he's gone? We hear from Chief Reporter for the Farmer's Guardian, Abi Kay. A growing number of dog paddocks are popping up, where dog walkers have exclusive use of fields. Farmer Andrew Corner from Easingwold in North Yorkshire is hoping to be the first in his district to get planning permission to turn a tenth of his farmland over to dog exercising. It's salad week on Farming Today. There was a time, and not too long ago, when you'd only find one or perhaps two types of tomato in the shops. Now, innovations in growing methods, along with more sophisticated consumer demand, mean that our farmers grow a far wider range of tomatoes. Caz Graham went to meet Andy Roe amongst his tomato vines in a massive glasshouse near Ormskirk, West Lancashire.   Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
