Farming Today

Royal visit to Cumbrian farm, farm weddings, weed control, orchard project

Farming Today

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a taste of real farming yesterday in the Lake District. They were offered a look at all the routine work on a sheep farm including foot trimming and clipping fleece from a flock of Swaledales and Herdwicks. Farm weddings are on the rise - why would any couple choose to spend their most romantic of moments at a setting normally known for muck rather than marriage? We hear from the third finalist in the Future Foods category of the BBC Food and Farming Awards, The Orchard Project. As part of our week on crop protection, we hear how an organic farm uses an array of techniques to control weeds, including burning, hand hoeing and seed carpets. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
