28/08/19: Opposition to shooting for sport, Bees in the heat, Food surplus for pigs

Farming Today

This week Farming Today is looking at shooting for sport and having heard from those in favour, today Caz Graham speaks to Nick Weston from the League Against Cruel Sports to hear the arguments against this practice. Also for shooting week Clare Worden's been to a factory in Lincolnshire which takes animals like pigeons and pheasants from British Game Alliance registered estates to supply the supermarkets. Feeding food waste to pigs was banned in 2001 when it was found to be a contributing factor in the spread of Foot & Mouth disease but Dr Karen Luyckx from the sustainable food organisation Feedback tells Caz that food waste can now be treated successfully to be a safe source of pig feed. Following reports that UK bees are suffering in the heat Martin Smith from the British Beekeepers Association tells Caz that Bees are experts in regulating the heat in their hives.
