Farming Today

Theresa Villiers, Young farmers, Scottish land ownership

Farming Today

Farming Today has its first interview with the Environment Secretary Theresa Villiers. She defends the Governmentโ€™s position on Brexit and admits there is a risk for UK farmers of leaving the EU without a deal. There are young farmers, and then there are very young farmers. When other kids might be indoors playing computer games, two pre-teen Somerset brothers are busy on the farm rearing cows and pigs, and making themselves more than just a little pocket money. And in Scotland there have been years of debate about who owns what, and who should own what, and a series of reforms. It is estimated that fewer than 500 people own half the countryโ€™s privately-owned rural land. Charlotte speaks to Rob McMorran a researcher in the Rural Policy Centre at Scotland's Rural College. Presented by Charlotte Smith Produced by Alun Beach.
