08/09/20 - The Badger Cull, automated fruit grading, Eu trade negotiations

Farming Today

The government has announced this autumn's badger cull is bigger than last year's, with more than 64 thousand badgers allowed to be culled. It’ll take place across 17 counties, including low risk areas like Lincolnshire. Derbyshire is also back on the list even though it was withdrawn last year because there's already a vaccination programme running there. Ann Hill speaks to the Government's Chief Veterinary Officer. In our week-long look at automation in farming, we meet a fruit-grading machine that takes 45 pictures of every single cherry that passes through it, spotting more defects than any human ever could. And as the DEFRA Secretary agrees with the Prime Minister that a No Deal with the EU would be a "good outcome", we hear what the National Farmers Union makes of it.
