14/09/20 - Cider apples left to rot, salmon poaching and straw shortages.

Farming Today

Cider apples will be left to rot this year as farmers and drinks companies try to recover from the impact of the corona virus restrictions. After months of pub closures, there is a surplus of both cider apples and hops. We hear how police in West Wales uncovered a large-scale illegal fishing operation on the River Teifi near Cardigan. One man has been arrested and seven warrants have been issued as part of the investigation into what officers believe is an 'unprecedented' operation to illegally catch salmon and sewin or sea trout. It comes at a time when fish stocks are in serious decline in Welsh rivers. And after a challenging harvest, there is a shortage of straw.
