Farming Today

Asda and Sainsbury's merger and its impact on the supply chain, wildlife mapping, potato blight app, rare fritillary count

Farming Today

The proposed merger between Sainsbury's and Asda has prompted criticism from the National Sheep Association, the British Growers Association and the National Farmers Union who fear it could compromise competition and push down prices for farmers. Volunteers have been counting a particular rare wild flower which grows better in Wiltshire than anywhere else in the UK. The Wildlife Trusts have published a report calling for a national mapping system to be brought in by law which could, in their words, "lead to the creation of nature recovery maps and reverse decades of wildlife declines." And now gardeners are going to be asked to help in the "fight against blight" with a new potato blight app. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
