24/10/20 Farming Today This Week: Trade, biodigesters and by-products

Farming Today

As the UK signs a trade partnership with Japan, we get an update on the ongoing negotiations with the EU and look to a potential future deal with the USA. Anaerobic digesters can be used to get rid of food or farm waste, but many are also fed with maize grown specially for the purpose. So how green is the 'green energy' they produce? We’ve been focusing this week on the by-products of farming. In Oxfordshire a couple of entrepreneurs have come up with an idea to use feathers for insulated packaging for food. And we hear how a farmer in Wiltshire made a nearly 600-mile round trip to Cumbria, to reunite a care home resident with his former sheep dog. Presented by Sybil Ruscoe and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
