29/01/21 New fishing taskforce, Lough Neagh eels, calf at foot dairy

Farming Today

The Government is setting up a โ€˜joint ministerial taskforceโ€™ to deal with the post-Brexit chaos fish exporters are facing. The move follows calls from Scottish fish producers for a taskforce to tackle what they say are ongoing problems with paperwork and delays at ports. Last week we heard on the programme how an eel company in Gloucestershire can no longer export eels to the EU, or to Northern Ireland where they went to restock Lough Neagh. Today we hear how the same rules around the trade in endangered species are impacting eel fishermen on Lough Neagh. In the majority of dairy herds calves are separated from their mothers within a day or two of being born. Some animal welfare campaigners say thatโ€™s cruel and there are now a few herds where the cow and calf are kept together. We speak to the Calf at Foot Dairy in Suffolk. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
