Farming Today

British pigs are getting too fat, and that’s not a good thing. Export delays caused by Brexit and staff shortages due to Covid mean pig farmers are struggling to get their animals into the food chain. This week a Β£23 million government fund designed to help fishing crews and seafood producers caught up in export issues opened, but many of those involved say they don’t qualify for this money. A government report has made recommendations for improving animal welfare at slaughter. They came in a review of rules on killing animals, though animal welfare groups say they don’t go far enough. We hear from farmers early lambing in Shropshire, as they help a ewe delivering triplets. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
