Glyphosate licence renewed, GM potato, Pheasants for food banks

Farming Today

The EU has made a decision about the future of the weedkiller glyphosate, and has renewed its license for five years. Farmers are pleased, but anti-pesticide groups say their campaign continues. A potato resistant to 'late blight' was developed back in 2013 by the Sainsbury Lab in Norwich. Those resistant genes are now being used in potato crops in the United States. Now, Professor Jonathan Jones, who did the original work, has produced a potato containing three late-blight resistant genes. A former banker from Somerset is taking game from country shoots and turning it into meals which are distributed to charities across the country. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
