22/12/20 - Shellfish and lamb delayed at Dover, diving for scallops and Newton Rigg College

Farming Today

We hear about the impact of delays at Dover on farmers and fishermen. Perishable goods like lamb and shellfish stuck in lorries en route to the continent, may go to waste. Most scallops caught in UK waters are brought up by dredging, where metal framed nets are dragged over the seabed. Just 4% are hand-dived, but divers have told Farming Today they're concerned new safety rules being considered by the Health and Safety Executive could shut their jobs down. And more bad news for Newton Rigg College as plans to safe it from closure are rejected. Presented by Anna Hill Produced for BBC Audio in Bristol by Heather Simons
